CONCERT COVERAGE: NAV, KILLY & J-Krupt @ Summit Music Hall 6/02/19

Two Toronto stars delivered an amped up show here in Denver at Summit Music Hall the night of June 2nd. The venue opened up around 7:00 PM and the fans of the sold out show were eager to enter, after having waited in the line which wrapped around the block. The night began with J-Krupt, a local artist who has been running the Denver scene for nearly 5 years, and has opened for the likes of 2 Chainz, Tory Lanez, and Wiz Khalifa just to name a few. J-Krupt was followed by KILLY, an up and coming artist from Toronto. KILLY captivated the hearts and minds of his audience with his songs “Killamonjaro,” “Doomsday,” and “No Romance,” his breakout single produced by 16yrold. KILLY closed up his set with the hit “No Sad No Bad,” to which the audience recited every word with great enthusiasm. KILLY overall delivered a hyped-up and solid performance thanks to his electrifying stage presence and excellent audio engineer who was able to nearly replicate the sound KILLY captures in his studio recordings.

After a prolonged wait, NAV made his first appearance of the night, and the crowd was beyond ready to hear his mesmerizing flows. The Toronto native NAV specializes in Hip-Hop and R&B, and the with the release of his newest studio album Bad Habits, NAV continues to provide listeners with smooth and sublime sung-raps. Some highlights of the night were NAV’s performances of “Habits,” “Myself,” and “Price On My Head,” the latter which features Toronto singer The Weeknd. In the past NAV had seemed to struggle with engaging his audience during his performances, however this was not the case at the Summit as he was fully able to capture the audience’s attention and permeate his energy into the crowd. To cap off a stellar performance, NAV left the audience with “Tap” which will continue to resonate in their ears for many days to come.

The entire night was filled with the spirit of Toronto as both NAV and KILLY brought their city’s transfixing musical style to the stage. Entrancing raps and autotune were prominent, but so was the display of Denver fans’ dedication to the new wave of Hip-Hop.
