The Sound of a Revolution

You’ve heard of Recession Pop, get ready for Revolution Bangers

Recession Pop is a trending term used to describe the nostalgic music from the 2000s that was centered around living every night like it was our last, spending all our money because we were broke anyways, and Turning Up™ (I know nothing about the lifestyle; unfortunately I was like 2 years old, not turning up at the fullest potential :/). Thankfully for us, we have not only overcome the recession (if you choose to think optimistically), but we have also made our way into an oncoming revolution! (Sarcasm.) History books will love this era. (No sarcasm, the writers will have so much to work with, I’m sure.)

In all seriousness, this is a hard time for society, and hard times call for togetherness. Fortunately, we live in an era where artists are expressing themselves through music more than ever, with less fear and hotter hits.

While it is important for you to use your voices as members of society, it is also important to take care of yourselves. This may take the form of seeking out resources; Regis has a magnitude of resources for those needing them, including resources for migrants and their families, legal rights, mental health support, queer-safe communities, food insecurity, and more. Sometimes, artists are better at putting our thoughts and emotions into words and especially in music. Here are some songs that might help you take care of yourself in this way during the rise of a revolution. For all intents and purposes, this is not condoning revolting, but rather an astute observation being made of the state of our society, today. Take care of yourself.
