Selena Quintanilla was born on April 16, 1971, in Lake Jackson, Texas. By the age of ten, she was already the lead singer of her family’s band, performing at local clubs and gaining early recognition for her talent. To better connect with the Latin music audience, her father encouraged her to learn Spanish, which helped shape her unique musical identity.

Selena’s career took off quickly. In 1987, she won the Tejano Music Award for Best Female Vocalist of the Year and Performer of the Year, achievements she continued to earn for several years. Her success grew even more with the release of her 1990 album Ven Conmigo, which sold over 500,000 copies. In 1992, she married guitarist Chris Pérez, and the following year, her album Live! won a Grammy Award for Best Mexican-American Album, solidifying her place as a major figure in the music industry. She soon began working on an English-language album, aiming to reach an even wider audience.

Tragically, Selena’s life was cut short on March 31, 1995, when she was murdered by Yolanda Saldívar, the president of her fan club. Her death shocked the world. However, her legacy continues to live on through her music and the 1997 biopic Selena, where Jennifer Lopez portrayed her.

Selena introduced Tejano music to audiences far beyond Texas and helped bring Latin music into the mainstream. She was the first Tejano artist  to win a Grammy. The two best-selling Latin albums in U.S. history, Dreaming of You and Amor Prohibido, are both hers. Dreaming of You has been recognized as one of the most important pop recordings of its era.

Selena has been honored with statues in Corpus Christi, Texas, and Nuevo León, Mexico. She has two commemorative postage stamps, stars on three Walks of Fame, and inductions into multiple Halls of Fame.

”Selena will always be remembered as the “Queen of Tejano Music,” a cultural icon, and a beloved artist whose impact continues to inspire generations.

My favorite song from Selena would have to be “No me queda mas” it reminds us the beauty of music and expression. Written by Ricky Vela, He wrote this song to express his feelings for Suzette (Selena's sister). He wrote this when Suzette was getting ready to get married. The only person that knew about it was Selena that is why when she sang it she did it with so much passion. Listen to it bellow
