Interview with UPNOW!

After attending the closing show for UPNOW! in Boulder, CO we were able to get in an interview with the band, down below is the question and their responses. A bit of info, they are a band from Phoenix, AZ, they create experimental rock and roll, and they just concluded their three month tour around the US.

Q1: What artists or musical genres did you guys get inspiration from to start the band?

Response: Just like, all of our friends, we just grew up jamming and it was like everyone had an influence to us and just hearing each other all the time.

Q2: When creating a song, what usually comes first, the lyrics, melodies, or instrumentals?

Response: We feel like it comes differently each time. Usually it starts with jams, or like he (main singer) will have some lyrics or like a riff or something, and then they’ll (drummer) will start jamming. It always happens different.

Q3: What do you enjoy most about performing live compared to recording it in the studio?

Response: It’s more like an exchange of energy versus like a recording. It feels real to like, capture a truth in the moment, like when you’re in the studio, you already have preconceived like what you’re going to say sometimes and when you think about what you say before you sat it to much, then it comes out wrong. So when it’s live, we can just let the jam be the jam when it’s for the people.

Q4: What is something people might be surprised to learn about like where your music came from or like how your band was made?

Response: I think we’re not that surprising unfortunately…technically we are homeless and we’re inspired by everything. We’re registered from Arizona, but you can’t find us on a map. People can find us anywhere and everywhere.

Q5: How do you think that your music style has changed since you first started?

Response: We have to keep adapting. Like I think that it always changes, like every day and every song changed every day, like depending on how we play and how we are feeling, like we adapt. We make more music every day, like i feel like every day just trying to be like the best version of yourself. Everyday is a new challenge and new song.

Q6: What is up next for UPNOW!, like what do the fans have to look forward to?

Response: UPNOW! 2K27. Like realistically that’s it. Like it’s another year coming up so endless possibilites. Yeah, we just got off a tour of the new EP, so I am (lyricist) getting back to writing and stuff and hopefully have more shows set up in the beginning of the year.

Above: a message that ended the interview. (From left to right; vocal & guitarist, drummer, and vocal & bassist)
