WHO IS KayCyy??
After a long run of helping co-write and co-produce songs with some of the biggest artists in the world, KayCyy is finally heading in his own direction, staying true to his creative self and establishing himself as more than just a collaborator. He started in 2014, releasing mixtapes under the name KayCyy Pluto on SoundCloud, which he very much keeps alive by dropping consistent cover tracks, remixes, and unreleased songs for fans to find.
In 2019, he met Kanye West through their manager Abou “Bu” Thiam. A year later, he would begin working closely with Kanye on his 10th studio album, Donda. Having credits on “Hurricane”, “24”, and featuring on “Keep My Spirit Alive” as the chorus. However, Kanye would later remove his verse when updating the album and replacing it with vocals of his own. Luckily, when Kanye dropped the Donda (Deluxe), he added KayCyy’s verse back on the track, but as a separate song, titled “Keep My Spirit Alive 2.” Along with the Kanye collaborations, it was in 2020 that he began dropping official music under the KayCyy name. Appearing on more tracks as a feature with other artists.
In 2023, KayCyy dropped a collab tape with famous producer Gessafelstein, showing KayCyy’s range when hopping on a different beat and creating a new sound. “ROLL THE DICE” and “THE SUN” are the standouts from this project, giving a romantic alternative feel through the production and lyrics. He also appeared on Travis Scott’s long-awaited 4th studio album UTOPIA, having writing credits and vocals on the second track “THANK GOD”, which was worked on during the Donda sessions. KayCyy would then spark a beef against Travis for removing his name as a credited feature from the album, after helping write the song’s chorus. His public frustration would then lead to online tweets and comments. “Y'all keep sending me these messages…Y'all know what I do… I'm not no background singer…[F***] Trav!!!”. KayCyy would use this “drama” as a way to promote one of his best singles yet, “My Jeans”, which would be released a week later, showing he does not need an A-lister like Travis to be recognized for making a good song.
KayCyy, also in this year, teams up with Westside Gunn by having a standalone song “AND THEN YOU PRAY FOR ME” in Gunn’s final track from his album of the same name, this time being credited for writing and producing the song. Also, KayCyy features on “PRAY4DAGANG”, which was supposed to be A$AP Rocky’s lead single for the long-awaited album DON’T BE DUMB, but it seems as if that project will never come out (blog on that soon). Confirming KayCyy’s new signing to Rocky’s label AWGE, which ironically, some may see as the opposite of Travis Scott’s Cactus Jack, referring to the unconfirmed beef between Rocky and Travis, and how KayCyy chose Rocky’s side after the “THANK GOD” scandal. And if you haven't noticed yet, KayCyy’s top songs all have “God” mentioned, showcasing his ability to blend gospel music with some of the biggest artists in the world by putting god first.
In the year 2025, KayCyy has dropped a total of 3 mixtapes: SADDEST TRUTH with the Sign Crushes Motorists, BEFORE I WAS BORN, and MIXTAPE 1, each showing his progression as a growing artist. THE SADDEST TRUTH was KayCyy’s second collab tape, which served as a return for KayCyy’s fans, performing a more soulful sound on songs like “Nyumbani (sounds like)”, “Make Sure Your Loved (ft. Hopium)”, and “Never Wanna See You”; while still experimenting with the hip-hop/rap genre on songs like “Diamonds”, “BRUISED”, and “Lead Me Father (ft. IAN)”. BEFORE I WAS BORN was then shortly teased to be the next mixtape to be coming out before the release of a bigger project, which is being speculated to be the debut album he is currently working on with the running title of WHEN I WAS BORN. There are a crazy number of good songs from BEFORE I WAS BORN with a very fun production from KayCyy himself, and with the collaboration of others. “GRAPE VINE”, “ROBBIN’ DREAMS, and “LAVAA” are this album's standouts, which also follow with experimental songs towards the end of the track list, “I Woke Up MAD!”, “A GROWN MAN CRIED”, and “ALL IN VEIN (DRUMS)”. And most recently, he dropped MIXTAPE 1, which seems to be the final project from KayCyy until we get the debut album. Which could be released next year, given KayCyy’s consistent rate of dropping new music. The songs that are featured on MIXTAPE V1 were chosen by vote on KayCyy’s Soundcloud by fans who had to choose from 16 songs, and only select 12 to make the cut. This served as an interactive experience between KayCyy and fans to publish the mixtape together. Songs like “WALK4YA” and “King Of The Hill” were teased on KayCyy’s Instagram with creative music videos that he shot and directed on a MacBook Pro, showing fans that simplicity can benefit low-production videos.
KayCyy is on the rise as a new artist who will soon be in everyone’s playlist. Much like Metro Boomin, Pharrell Williams, and even Kanye West, many people have heard their works before actually knowing who they are, as it takes people time to find out who the creator of a song actually is. Check out our album spotlight of MIXTAPE V1 that goes more in depth, and our playlist below that gives a great introduction to KayCyy’s music and collaborations, so you can get familiar with him and claim that you are a day one fan by the time the debut album comes out:
